Care and Maintenance

Leather Care Tips and Instructions

Full-grain leather is one of the most versatile and natural materials in the world. With proper care, it can last a lifetime. At VictorNest, we hope you enjoy our handcrafted leather goods for many years to come. Here are some simple and effective leather care guidelines to help you keep your leather products looking as good as new.

Daily Care

  • Leather needs to “breathe.” Avoid overstuffing your bag, as it can cause wear and deformation.
  • Use a soft cotton cloth to gently wipe off dust, maintaining the leather’s natural luster.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent cracking, fading, or damage to the leather.
  • Avoid contact with jewelry or sharp objects while carrying your bag to prevent scratches.

Storage Tips

  • Store your leather goods in a well-ventilated cotton bag, away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
  • Do not store leather in humid environments to prevent mold growth.
  • Ensure the leather is completely dry before storage to avoid unpleasant odors.

Cleaning Recommendations

  • For daily cleaning, gently wipe the leather with a dry cotton cloth. Avoid using water or oils on the leather.
  • For specific stains (such as chewing gum), use an ice pack to chill the spot for a few minutes, then gently remove the residue.
  • Do not use chemical cleaners, saddle soap, or abrasives to clean leather.

Leather Care

  • Use a specialized leather conditioner to maintain moisture, and wipe off any excess with a clean cotton cloth.
  • Treat the leather with neatsfoot oil or plant-based oils, avoiding unsuitable oils that can leave the leather sticky.
  • Regular maintenance should be done twice a year. If frequently exposed to sunlight, condition the leather 3-4 times a year.

Removing Odors

  • Leather odors will naturally dissipate after 1-2 weeks of use. You can also leave the leather item in the sun for 30-45 minutes (avoiding prolonged exposure), repeating this process for 2-3 days.
  • If the odor persists, sprinkle talcum powder on the leather and gently wipe with a cotton cloth.

Stain Treatment

  • Address stains promptly. For stubborn stains, cover with chalk powder overnight and then clean.
  • For leather goods not in frequent use, wrap them in bubble wrap to retain their shape, and cover metal components with acid-free tissue paper.

Tips

  • Avoid contact with oils. Ensure the leather is completely dry before storage to prevent odors from developing.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your VictorNest leather goods maintain their beauty and durability over time.
